Your privacy matters to us.
SnapMeal is designed to help you track calories, discover recipes, and improve your health while keeping your personal data secure and under your control.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application ("App").
We aim to comply with:
- UK GDPR
- EU GDPR
- Applicable international data protection laws
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated date above.
2. WHO WE ARE
SnapMeal is a mobile application that allows users to:
- Track calories through food scanning and meal logging
- Browse a recipe catalog hosted in our cloud database
- Import recipes from Instagram, websites, or links
- Scan ingredients to discover recipes
- Monitor activity (steps, walking, running) via Apple Health when you connect it
- Set personal calorie and macro goals based on your profile
- Analyse nutrition and lifestyle data

3. KEY DEFINITIONS
- "App" - SnapMeal mobile application
- "User" / "You" - anyone using SnapMeal
- "Personal Data" - any data that identifies you
- "Health Data" - activity or wellness data (steps, calories burned, etc.)
- "Services" - all features provided through SnapMeal
4. HOW THIS POLICY APPLIES
This policy applies to all users of SnapMeal.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
5. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
5.1 Account Information
When you register, we may collect:
- Name
- Email address
- Profile information
You can sign up using:
- Apple Sign-In
- Google Sign-In
- Email and password
5.2 Third-Party Login (Apple and Google)
If you sign up via Apple or Google, we may receive:
- Name
- Email address
- Profile image (if available)
We only use this data to:
- Create your account
- Authenticate your login
5.3 Health and Activity Data
With your explicit permission, SnapMeal may access data from your device's health platform such as:
- Steps
- Walking distance
- Running distance
- Calories burned
This data is used to:
- Power your activity dashboard
- Provide insights into your health and calorie balance
We do not access Health data without your consent.
5.4 Food and Nutrition Data
When using SnapMeal, we may collect:
- Scanned food data (via camera)
- Ingredients detected from images
- Calories and nutrition estimates
- Logged meals
This is used to:
- Calculate calorie intake
- Provide nutritional insights
5.5 Recipe Data
SnapMeal provides recipes in two ways:
- Catalog recipes: titles, ingredients, instructions, images, nutrition estimates, and categories loaded from our Supabase-hosted database for meal plan recipe pickers
- Your recipes: content you import, create, or save, including from social media or websites
When you import or create recipes, we may process:
- Ingredients and instructions
- Images and thumbnails
- Source links (e.g. Instagram or website URLs)
- Collections, favourites, and meal-plan associations stored on your device and, when signed in, linked to your account
5.6 Camera and Image Data
If you use scanning features, we process:
- Photos of food
- Photos of ingredients
Used for:
- Food recognition
- Ingredient detection
- Recipe generation
5.7 Usage and Device Data
We may collect:
- Device type
- Operating system
- App usage behaviour
- Session activity
Used to:
- Improve performance
- Fix bugs
- Understand user behaviour
5.8 Communications
If you contact us, we may store:

5.9 Health Profile and Goals
During onboarding or in Settings, you may provide:
- Name
- Date of birth (for age)
- Sex (used for calorie goal calculations)
- Height and weight (current and goal)
- Weight goal direction (lose, maintain, or gain)
- Activity level (e.g. how often you cook)
- Daily calorie and macro targets derived from your inputs
This information is used to personalise your nutrition targets and display your health profile. It is not a medical diagnosis.
5.10 Guest Use (Without an Account)
You may use SnapMeal without creating an account (guest mode). In that case:
- Much of your data (meals, imports, preferences) is stored on your device
- Guest data may be cleared if you log out as a guest or remove the App
- Creating an account saves your sign-in and profile settings; imported recipes and meal data remain on this device unless we add cloud backup in a future update
5.11 Subscriptions and Purchases
If you subscribe to premium features, we and our providers may process:
- Subscription status and entitlement (via RevenueCat)
- Purchase and renewal metadata handled by Apple (App Store)
- We do not receive your full payment card details from Apple
5.12 Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may send reminders related to the App (e.g. meal or streak prompts). You can turn notifications off in device or in-app settings.
6. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
We use your data to:
- Provide and operate SnapMeal
- Authenticate your account
- Track calories and activity
- Generate recipes and insights
- Improve user experience
- Provide support
- Prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
7. LEGAL BASIS (GDPR)
We process your data based on:
- Contract - to provide the App
- Consent - for Health data and marketing
- Legitimate interest - improving the App
- Legal obligation - compliance
8. HEALTH DATA AND CONSENT
Health data is considered sensitive personal data.
We only process it if:
- You explicitly grant permission
- You can revoke access at any time via device settings
9. SHARING YOUR DATA
We do not sell your personal data.
We share data only as needed to run SnapMeal, including with:
- Supabase — authentication, account management, and recipe catalog storage
- Google (Gemini) — AI meal analysis and related vision or text processing
- OpenAI — ingredient detection from photos in some scan flows
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and Apple Health (with your permission)
- Google — Sign in with Google where you choose that option
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management
- Google (Firebase) — Analytics and crash reporting to improve stability
- U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) FoodData Central — nutrition lookups for some foods, when applicable
- Optional recipe-import services — when you import from a link, data may be sent to servers that extract recipe content from that URL
These providers process data on our instructions or their own terms where you interact with them directly (e.g. Apple).
10. DATA STORAGE AND TRANSFERS
Your data may be stored on secure servers in:
- United Kingdom
- European Union
- Other regions via cloud providers
We ensure appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
11. DATA RETENTION
We keep your data:
- While your account is active
- Until you request deletion
We may retain limited data where required by law.
12. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Access your data
- Correct your data
- Delete your data
- Restrict processing
- Withdraw consent

13. SECURITY
We implement industry-standard protections including:
- Encryption (HTTPS/SSL)
- Secure authentication
- Access controls
However, no system is completely secure.
14. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
SnapMeal is not intended for anyone under 16 years of age.
You must be at least 16 to use the App, unless a parent or legal guardian has consented where local law allows and we have permitted that use.
If we learn that we collected personal data from someone under 16 without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete that information.
15. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
SnapMeal links to or relies on services whose privacy practices are separate from ours, including:
- Apple Health, Apple Sign-In, and the App Store
- Google Sign-In and Google cloud AI services (Gemini)
- OpenAI (ingredient scanning)
- External websites when you import recipes or open source links
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those services. We are not responsible for their practices.
16. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
SnapMeal uses artificial intelligence to analyse meal photos, detect ingredients, estimate nutrition, and personalise your experience.
Content sent for AI processing may include photos, text, or recipe-related data. AI output can be incomplete or incorrect. You should check results before relying on them for your health or diet.
We use AI providers (such as Google Gemini and OpenAI) under their terms and our agreements with them. Do not use AI features to develop competing models or reverse-engineer our systems.
17. ACCOUNT DELETION
You may delete your account in the App. When deletion succeeds on our servers, we remove your authenticated account and clear associated on-device data tied to your session. Some anonymised or legally required records may be retained for a limited time where the law requires.
18. AUTOMATED PROCESSING
We use automated processing to calculate calorie goals, categorise content, and personalise the App (for example, targets from your height, weight, age, and sex).
This does not produce legal effects about you. It is intended to improve your experience only. You may update or correct profile data in Settings where available.
